Kitchen herb and perennial salad garden Kapoho Hawaii. This garden is one of my favorites that I have designed and installed, in such a small space it includes purple okinawa spinach, cuban oregano, sissou spinach, true oregano, marjoram, sage, thyme, lovage(a perennial celery substitute), Vietnamese coriander, lemon verbena, spearmint, apple mint, chocolate mint, orange mint, perennial cilantro, nasturtium, comfrey, aloe vera, yarrow, garlic chives, bunching onions, basil, cranberry hibiscus, feverfew, ti, coleus and several other ornamentals. Being just steps from the kitchen this garden sees lots of use, it is so easy and quick to pick a salad for lunch, grab some mint for a cup of tea, aloe for burns or insect bites, or just sit back and enjoy the beauty.
Building a permaculture garden, weed barrier has just been removed from the brown area, no tilling of the soil or weeding was necessary up to this point. Photo taken Just after planting cassava, sweet potatoes, perennial beans, okinawa spinach, sissou spinach, banana, edible hibiscus, and glyrcidia living fenceposts.
The bounty of the land, Jackfruit, pumello, rolinia, mamae sapote, avocado, papaya, soursop, ulu, orange, banana, chico sapote, chocolate sapote, star apple, 2 types of ice cream bean, and cacao, YUM! Your yard may not be big enough for a tree of each of these, but even the smallest piece of land can support several trees, and with careful planning, and a little pruning, you might be surprised by how much you can grow!
